Mentoring Works. Help me reach my goal so that many more underserved youth can be connected to caring mentors.

Dear Friends & Family:

Last year, I started volunteering for an amazing organization called iMentor. I am sure most of you have had someone in your life you consider a role model, a mentor, or simply someone you can go to for advice and guidance. iMentor provides today's youth the same opportunity by connecting New York City professionals with high school students from low-income communities, creating the foundation and support for high-impact mentoring relationships.

The success of iMentor is demonstrated by the fact that 92% of eligible mentees graduated from high school after the 2009 program year (compared to New York City’s average graduation rate of 60.7%), and 82% enrolled in college. This year alone, iMentor will match 1,200 young people with 1,200 mentors in New York City – connecting professionals seeking a meaningful volunteer commitment with the young people who benefit so significantly from mentoring relationships.

In September, iMentor paired me with my mentee Renzo, a freshman at the Bronx Urban Assembly School for Careers in Sports. He is intelligent, funny, and approximately twice my size. Renzo and I communicate via email on a weekly basis, and we have met up in person several times over the last few months through various events organized by iMentor.

In order for iMentor to continue growing and reach even more NYC high school students, we need your help -- every donation supports pairs like me and Renzo and provides resources for our events. If you're interested in lending a more direct hand by becoming a volunteer, please do not hesitate to contact me. To learn more about iMentor, visit their website at www.imentor.org.

Thanks,

Kel
