A project of iMentor Incorporated
Mentoring Works. Help me reach my goal so that many more low-income youth can be connected to caring mentors.
As many of you know, I work for an amazing organization called iMentor. What many of you might not know is that I am also a mentor to a young woman named Inez (this is a picture from us earlier this year). We were first matched in November 2007 when Inez was a junior at a high school in the South Bronx. Inez just started her freshman year at St. Francis College in Brooklyn. Over the past three years it has been one of the most important and meaningful things I have done, serving as a mentor to Inez.
We have all had someone in our lives that we consider a role model, a mentor, or simply someone to go to for advice and guidance. For Inez and so many youth in NYC and across the country they don't have access to mentors or people that guide them through high school graduation and college enrollment. That is why iMentor was created...
iMentor connects New York City professionals with high school students from low-income communities, creating the foundation and support for high-impact mentoring relationships. The success of iMentor is demonstrated by the fact that 92% of eligible mentees graduated from high school after the 2009 program year (compared to New York City's average graduation rate of 60.7%), and 82% enrolled in college. This year alone, iMentor will match 1,200 young people with 1,200 mentors in New York City - connecting professionals seeking a meaningful volunteer commitment with the young people who benefit so significantly from mentoring relationships. In order to do this we need your help.
So here is my "ask"
(1) Consider making a donation to my Donor Drive page. I am hoping that all of my friends and family will make a donation of $25 to help reach my goal of raising $1,000. If I can reach my goal it will help enroll one new mentor-mentee pair in the program.
(2) If you live in NYC consider becoming a mentor. It is a powerful experience and I would be happy to speak with you more about the program. Please visit our website (www.imentor.org) to learn more.
Please know how much I appreciate your support. Over the past 10 years iMentor has changed thousands of lives and we will aim to serve many more youth in the next 10 years.
