The students of Mrs. Martins' Third Grade Class have committed to nightly reading in order to raise funds for classroom technology.

Ms. Martins’ students love reading books and shared many reasons why they select particular genres. Fiction books like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea are terrific choices because the events in the story might not happen in real life! Books filled with excitement, like the Harry Potter series, make them want to read more.

Rhyming books are also great, especially Dr. Seuss’s books which are usually funny! Action books are another favorite because they are complicated. The Hobbit is a great example of that!

Great writing draws us into reading books. When authors write realistic descriptions and include details, you can actually visualize what’s happening. Return of the King and The Invention of Hugo Cabret are wonderful choices to read.

Several students also love reading mystery books such as Escaping a Great Wave because readers never find out the answer to the mystery until they finish reading the book. Books that hold surprises like The Fairies’ Mistake are also delightful to read. They make the reader eager to read what will happen next and sometimes, it’s not what you expected to happen at all.

Non-fiction books are also a popular choice because they are useful. They have information that you might need to know. Action packed sports books are another favorite. After reading them, it makes you want to try that sport.
