Honey's Surgery

On Monday night (2/13) as I went to bed I kept seeing Honey's face. I woke with her face haunting me. Honey was a stray dog up at Leech Lake Reservation who was hit by a car and left in the middle of the road to die. A kind samaritan stopped to help her and through a collaborative effort of Leech Lake Legacy (http://leechlakelegacy.blogspot.com) and Pet Haven Inc of Minnesota (www.pethavenMN.org) Honey's life was saved on Valentine's Day. Honey couldn't walk and Leech Lake Legacy had no money to pay for evaluation and treatment of an injured dog, and most likely costly surgery to repair a broken leg.

Without a rescue to step up and take Honey into their shelter or foster program the sweet 1 year old aussie mix would be euthanized. On Valentine's Day Pet Haven gave Honey the gift of life by taking her into their foster program and taking on responsibility of all of her medical care. She will be having surgery on Friday, 2/17. Her front left leg is broken. The surgeons will do all they can to save the leg.

The cost of Honey's care could be as much as $5,000. She is the sweetest, most gentle spirit and deserves a second chance. Her rescue took a village ... Leech Lake Legacy, Pet Haven, Natasha (the good samaritan), Rory (Leech Lake ACO), transport volunteers Nancy O and Barb W, Plymouth Heights Pet Hospital, Bemidji Animal Care Center, Dinie (who will be Honey's foster), Minnesota Veterinary Referral Services and countless others who helped spread the word.

Update (2/17/2012):

Honey's surgery to repair and save her leg was successful. She is now in her foster home healing and recovering. Follow the Pet Haven facebook page for continued updates on Honey!
