My Visit to Manshiyat Naser

I saw the pictures of Garbage City before I left for the trip, but I really did not know what to expect. I thought, "Was it really as bad as the pictures show? Maybe the pictures were taken 10 years ago and it is better now." However, when I got to the service site I saw that this was not the case. More than 20,000 people live in Gargage City. Coptic (Egyptian) Christians predominantly live in Garbage City. While some have been able to move out of shacks and into homes with help from Habitat for Humanity and funders like International Samaritan, many still live in the shacks. During our visit I saw that the people bring the garbage to their homes and sort it in the shacks. The animals (donkeys, goats, etc.) also live in the same place as the people. It was a hard thing to see. But the thing that I noticed most was that although life was hard I never failed to see the Love of God in everyone I met. We were told that people were happy to see us there because it showed that the people were not forgotten. You can help to further the work that International Samaritan is doing in Garbage City by donating today.
