I will be spending 8 weeks in Uganda coaching and teaching the youth of Kampala. Please support me in this journey
"Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more"
My name is Aaron Ruff and I could not be more excited to have the opportunity to serve the youth of Kampala, Uganda as a summer intern at Soccer Without Borders. Soccer Without Borders is a program that began in 2006. The program’s goals are to address three critical issues facing young people in underserved communities throughout the world:
1. A lack of safe spaces where young people feel cared for, have a voice and can experience the joy of sport.
2. A lack of opportunity for youth to actively explore social issues and community challenges.
3. A lack of social capital and access to potential opportunities for education, employment and personal growth.
Soccer has been an integral part of my life since I was five years old. Participating in soccer has taught me invaluable life lessons. Soccer has given me the opportunity to learn about responsibility, integrity, and the benefits of hard work. In addition, while participating in this “beautiful game” I have developed lifelong friendships while learning the importance of teamwork
I am currently privileged to be the boy’s soccer coach at Ankeny High School in Ankeny, Iowa. I also feel privileged to be a physical educator at Prairie Ridge Middle school in Ankeny, Iowa. Through my experiences with Soccer Without Borders my goal is not only to make a difference in the lives of the youth of Kampala - I hope to use this experience as an opportunity to enrich the lives of my students and student-athletes in Ankeny.
As a result of all my experiences and my love for the game of soccer I feel that it is my calling to teach and coach the youth of Kampala this summer. My hope is to positively impact each and every young person I have the privilege of working with. Soccer has had such a positive impact on my life and it is my goal to make certain that soccer can have that kind of impact on the youth of Kampala.
I ask that you please help me in this journey. All donations can go a long way and are tax deductible! Your support of my teaching and coaching opportunity in Uganda is much appreciated!
