Over 2,000 homeless young people in the Seattle area rely on accessing a shower at New Horizons. Help us add a 3rd shower to our center.

The two showers in our Drop-In Center give youth the opportunity to get cleaned up, but as important as that is, the real benefit is in giving them a few minutes to clear their head, breath some fresh air, and enjoy a few moments of quiet solitude under the wonderfully hot water. As any of the Self Care Volunteers who oversee this part of the Drop-In Center can tell you it can be pretty crazy trying to get the large numbers of youth who sign up to take a shower in and out before we close. Although nearly 2,200 youth were able to take showers last fiscal year, I know that many more are deterred because of the wait time.

A couple of weeks ago we found out that the pipe running to our showers had sprung a leak in a couple of places causing significant damage to the walls in the shower as well as one of our bathrooms. We were preparing to simply repair the walls and open the showers back up when one of our volunteers asked me to consider converting one of our bathrooms into a 3rd shower. It's a great opportunity to expand the services we offer, but it comes at a really challenging time. Our budget has been really tight all year, and the additional cost of both repairing the damage and making the conversion is beyond what we have budgeted for. But we are stepping out in faith that the dollars will be provided. After Christmas our contractor will begin working to add a third shower to the Drop-In Center as well as expand one of our 3 remaining bathrooms to meet the ADA regulations.

Check out our website to learn more about about the work that we are doing and the tangible way that you and your community can make a huge difference in the lives of the youth that we serve. The cost to repair the pipes and walls as well as convert the bathroom into a third shower will likely cost more than $6,000. Please consider sharing with any of your friends and family who might be interested in making a donation for this effort. You can mail a check to our address (please write "shower fund" in the memo line of the check) New Horizons Ministries PO Box 2801 Seattle, WA 98111. Or you can donate directly on our razoo page and 100% of your donation will go to our 3rd shower fund. Your support can make this hope a reality!
