Your donation will help make a difference in the life of puppy mill dogs like Paris!
Sadly, puppy mills exist right here in our state in large numbers. These dogs live their entire lives in small wire cages with no outdoor access. Many have never felt grass underneath their feet until they are rescued. Mill dogs can be very expensive to help as they often need extensive dental work. Their teeth are terrible due to years of stress, neglect, lack of sunshine, over breeding and poor diet. Your donation will help us continue to help these dogs and give them a chance at a normal life full of the things they have never known in the mill...things like toys, walks, warmth and most of all love.
I personally have had the pleasure of fostering Paris and other mill dogs for Elmbrook Humane Society. This past summer, the shelter was asked to take in 3 Brussels Griffons from a mill here in WI that wasn't breeding anymore. 2 of these 3 girls were extremely shy and Paris was the oldest and shyest. My heart immediately went out to her. All 3 needed baths and a professional grooming then were sent off to foster care. The dogs thrived but Paris had an enlarged abdomen. She was examined by a vet but required further testing. Over the next few weeks, Paris had an x-ray, ultrasound, blood work and EKG. All were normal. She continued to thrive in foster care where she received a good diet, daily walks which she grew to love and of course play time and love. She wagged her tail all the time and almost miraculously her swelling went down. About 6 weeks after coming in to the shelter, Paris was spayed and had a dental. She was adopted 4 months later by a wonderful family with a Griffon mix. She loves other dogs and her new family. Like many mill dogs, Paris is still shy but learning that life outside the mill is full of wonderful things. This will be her first Christmas free from that life!
