We commit to support grieving children and families with trust & acceptance to promote a sense of well-being with our participants.

Who are we? What is our story? What are we about?

We focus on helping children move past the loss of a loved one (a storm in their life) to a new day (the rainbow after the storm). How can we say it any better than the following quote.

A young person writes after the loss of her dad by suicide…

“The Healing Place is a place where I just felt at home. For the first time since my dad died, I felt like the other people understood. I left the group meetings feeling empowered and like I belonged instead of sad or depressed. After moving out of town to attend college, I still return home from time to time to attend group because there are days when I still need to belong.”

Direct ways offered to assist children are:

  • Individual counseling with certified counselors.
  • Healing Hearts Program
    • The Healing Place hosts grief support groups at the facility for children up to nineteen years of age.
    • Served 225 children and parents in evening support groups during the 2010/2011 year
  • School Bereavement Program
    • Served over 200 students in 33 schools in our school bereavement program serving schools in the tri-county (Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale) during the 2010/2011 year.
  • Healing Hearts Camp
    • In April 2011, 53 campers and 67 community volunteers participated in the Healing Hearts Day Camp for children who have experienced the death of a loved one.
  • Hope After The Storm
    • Following April 27, 2011, The Healing Place has been actively involved in storm recovery in Franklin County. “Hope After the Storm,” a program for children and their parents, met five times in Phil Campbell this summer. The Healing Place School Program staff is working with students in Franklin County and Russellville City Schools. The Healing Place is committed to the long-term recovery process as our community copes with this tragedy.

There are no fees for our services. We function primarily from the kindness of people who also want to help children.

I donated today in honor of John Patrick Hardy who passed from this life in September of 2007. Pat was the father of my daughters Morgan and Lindsay Hardy. The Healing Place provided grief support services, free-of-charge, to my girls after their Daddy passed away. This is an awesome place and I am very grateful for the help and support they gave my daughters during this terrible time in their lives.

The Healing Place is the reason that my sons and i can smile a real smile again. My first husband committed suicide in September of 2008 my sons were 4 and 8 years old and they oldest one was just an angry child he didnt know how to let out his emotions and not only that but he tried to be strong for me because he said that he was the man of the house now and i couldnt make him understand he didnt have to be the strongest one that's what mommies are for but he just wouldnt take that from me that's where the Healing Place came in at and helped with that as well. Gunner who was 4 at the time just didnt quite understand why, and of course i myself felt so guilty like i failed him and that his suicide was my fault; but Thanks to the Healing Place making me realize otherwise and for their helping my sons HEAL from the loss of their dad they still continue to help them every month at school they have the Healing Hearts Group sessions with ALL kids that have lost a loved one and just need to talk to someone and understand things. And ever since i have had the honor of being in their presence i continue to tell people the only place to Heal other than in Church and with God is at The Healing Place. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF THIS MOMMY'S HEART FOR HELPING MY BOYS TO HEAL. May God be with you all and help to continue to HEAL the HEARTS of such precious little children who deserve more than anything to be loved and to be HAPPY

From Wynnojean and Annika Halcomb - In October of 2011, my granddaughter and I visited The Healing Place for the first time. My husband, her grandfather, had died after a long battle with cancer in September. She has lived with us since she was a little baby and she was her papa's baby. The love and kindness we were shown was so wonderful. My granddaughter was with other children who had lost someone that they loved and it helped her to see she was not alone. The others were hurting and broken hearted like she was. I have seen a lot of progress in the way she is dealing with her grief. The anger is disappearing and the good times remain. I went to help my granddaughter and they helped me in my grief and heartache so I could help her but even more I helped me. I know that God put this place and these people in our lives at this time to help us grieve and to help mend our broken hearts. I thank God every day for all of you and for this place. This is truly a healing place.
