Imago Dei's fourth mission team is heading to rural Honduras June 12-19 to work with Mercy International to serve the poor.

Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the Western hemisphere, with 50% of the population below the poverty line. We will work in one of two areas. One such area is on the outskirts of La Esperanza, where hundreds of people were uprooted by flooding a number of years ago and resettled there. They built shacks in which to survive (dirt floor, no electricity or running water, the building material consisting of any board or piece of sheet metal they could find laying around.) They have lived in these conditions for over 5 years. The other possibility is an area up in the Opalacha Mountains, which requires a two hour drive over unpaved mountain road and then a 3-4 hour hike just to get to this area. These people are even more destitute, further removed from resources and medical care. Mercy International builds concrete block houses to provide permanent shelter for the poor and does so through teams like ours. While engaging in this hard physical work we will also be cultivating relationships and giving reassurance to these people that God himself has not forgotten them and neither has the church-at-large. We want them to know that there are brothers and sisters standing with them in their plight. Note: Any mission contributions made above and beyond the financial need of individual team members will be used for current or future foreign missions of Imago Dei Church.
