Haiti Disaster Relief - Kids to the Rescue
Kids to the Rescue fundraising for Salvation Army National Corp.
Kids To The Rescue (KTTR) is kids across America, coming together to help each other during times of crisis.
The Earthquake in Haiti is a catastrophe beyond anything most of us could ever imagine. It's time to do our part and make a difference in the lives of others.
The Salvation Army is expected to serve more than 1 million meals each week for the next six weeks until the UN supply chain of food to Haiti is fully operational. Salvation Army emergency teams and medical staff are primary providers for 20,000 displaced Haitians camped around its compound in Port-au-Prince, as well as their outreach to surrounding neighborhoods and cities in Haiti.
Over the weekend Salvation Army personnel along with the help of US Army 82nd Airborne, delivered 174,000 meals and water to a particularly hard hit neighborhood of Port-au-Prince which did not have any mass delivery of food until now.
Along with food and water, primary goals of Salvation Army work are to continue medical care and increase educational outreach to children. Before the earthquake on Jan 12, the Port-au-Prince Salvation Army school served 1,500 children each day. That number is down to 100 preschoolers due to the destroyed Salvation Army buildings and displacement of families in the area.
