Violence. Brothels. Rape. Usually these words make people despair. They think of victims, tragedy and helplessness. At Hagar, we don't despair. We think of hope. We think of stories like Bhoupa, in Cambodia:

When Bhoupa was 17, she received an offer too good to be true. A promised waitress job turned out to be life in a brothel. She escaped once, only to be returned. Finally set free, she still had no way to support herself. Through Hagar, she chose to learn cosmetology. Now, Bhoupa runs her own business, is recently married, and is expecting her first child.

We think of stories like Socheat:

Socheat can still remember the day he was sold. He was five years old. He watched his parents exchange money with two strangers, and then everything about his life changed. He was taken to Bangkok and forced to beg. Finally, at eight years old, he was rescued. Greatly traumatized, it took him two years to settle into life with a Hagar foster family and learn to trust. Now, as a teenager he excels in math and dreams of being an accountant.
