Local Habitat for Humanity Affiliates build and renovate houses in partnership with families in need of affordable housing. Homeowners are selected by local affiliates based on their need for housing, ability to repay a no-profit mortgage and willingness to partner with Habitat.
In 2010, the Habitat affiliates built 24 homes for families in need of a simple, decent place to live making a total of 367 Habitat homes in South Dakota. Those homes are valued at $35 million. A new program called A Brush with Kindness was also launched to reach 22 more families. ABWK program offers painting, landscaping, weather stripping and minor repair services for homeowners in need. This program serves low-income homeowners impacted by age, disability and family circumstances, who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes.
Since Habitat for Humanity-South Dakota was founded in 2000, Habitat for Humanity-South Dakota has facilitated the generation of $5.2 million in resources for the 14 Habitat affiliates to invest in their communities.
Please contribute to support and strengthen Habitat for Humanity-South Dakota and the 14 local affiliates of Habitat for Humanity to increase the number of affordable homes in South Dakota for working families in need of safe decent shelter.
