Any contribution to support my trip to Guyana is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Dear Friends and Family,
This year, I have decided to take part in a program called Builders Beyond Borders. This non-profit organization brings hundreds of students to an international location where we work together to improve the natives daily lives. In addition to working, whether it is building a bridge or a sidewalk, we also learn a great deal about cultures other than the United States, and interact with people local to the worksite.
In addition to the community service we do internationally, we also work locally throughout the year to improve the community we live in. Up until April, my team and I will be working many hours on services such as food drives or Clean Water Projects in neighboring towns.
After hearing the amazing stories and experiences from last year’s trip to Nicaragua, I was positive I wanted to join the organization this year. On April 13th, 2013 I will be flying to Guyana, a small country in South America. Bordered by Venezuela, Suriname, Brazil, and the Atlantic Ocean, Guyana’s geography is mostly flat and filled with many rivers. The culture in Guyana is also cherished by its people. Their festivities and good nature cannot go unrecognized. However, despite their kind hearts, most of the people in Guyana live their life in poverty. About 43% of their total population live below the poverty line, which is where Builders Beyond Borders steps in to leave its mark on the community. Each day we are in Guyana, we will spend hours working on a community project that will help the village. Not only will we be working with each other in improving lives, but the community gets involved as well. I am honored to be one of the students that will fly to Guyana and work on bettering the lives of these people that deserve so much more than they have.
I could not be more excited to experience this unknown culture, the people, and make a difference on many lives. However, in order to do so, I could really use the support from all of you. I need to raise a total of $2,750 to go on this trip. Any donation would be highly appreciated, not only by me but also the citizens of Guyana whose lives could be changed by the hammer your money is going to or the cement that will hold together their house wall.
Thank you so much for your support!
