The April 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion caused the most devastating environmental disaster in U.S. history. In addition to the 11 lives tragically lost aboard the rig, the spill holds heavy consequence for the surrounding economy and natural habitat.
Oil poisons animals and marine life. The spill has already contaminated innumerable fish, shrimp and oysters. It threatens the spawning grounds of bluefin tuna and blue crab. The oil threatens also to kill sea turtles and birds nesting along shore. As they surface to breathe, whales and dolphins become particularly vulnerable to surface oil.
Although BP must be held financially accountable for this clean up, we cannot wait for an endless cycle of litigation to end before we begin to help. The communities and wildlife along the coast need us now. By donating to groups like the Nature Conservancy, we can make a difference. We can help save marine wildlife!
Thank you for your consideration and please give!
