Greyson's 40 day Water Walk Marathon!

Access to clean water is the foundation for other forms of development. Because people don't have easy access to clean water, countless hours are spent in water collection, house hold incomes are spent on purchasing water and medical treatment for water-related diseases. These factors contribute to keeping people trapped in poverty. In sub-Saharan Africa alone, 40 billion hours of labor are wasted each year carrying water over long distances. Many women spend 15-20 hours per week collecting water, often walking up to 7 miles in the dry season.

The statistics are staggering. The numbers are overwhelming. When one thinks about the population of people affected by a lack of something as simple as unclean water, it is a fact that is hard to believe. But these statistics and numbers will always be just "statistics and numbers" to each of us, until we act upon them.

As a Christian, I know God to be good, loving, and full of grace. But as I see the suffering in the world and ask Him in my prayers "why do You allow this suffering," I hear an almost audible voice reply back the same question to me. I have to ask myself, "what am I going to do about the suffering of others?" As I read in the bible that Jesus said one of the two greatest commandments is to love your neighbor as yourself, I have to ask the question, "what would I do for myself if I were thirsty? Do I love others the way God loves them?" Is it enough that my hearts breaks for their pain and needs, when the bible says "show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do."

My name is Greyson Goon. From July 1st-August 9th, 2010 , I will be carrying two jerry cans filled with 40 lbs of water each! Talk about a work out! My motivation is not for muscles but for clean water!

With your help, I hope to raise at least $40 every day for 40 days for a grand total of $1600. With matching donations from other donors, our goal is to drill a well which costs $3000. The impact of this well will affect hundreds of people and throughout the generations, possibly thousands. Walk with me and help me carry this load.

My hope and prayer is that my actions not only bring clean water to those who desperately need it most, but to also bring awareness of this global need to those who don't know or have forgotten. I would like my life and my actions to encourage others to step out in faith and do the good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. And lastly, my greatest hope is that, through my life, the world may know the love of God, His goodness, His grace, and His mercy.
