Greg Johnson 2010 Boston Marathon
A fundraiser supporting BOTTOM LINE INC
Soon I will follow in my daughter Cora's footsteps and cross the finish line of the 114th Boston Marathon!
For the last 6 years I have been Executive Director at Bottom Line. In that time we have more than doubled the number of students we serve in Boston, expanded to Worcester and are now providing one-on-one service to more than 1,300 students per year. One of the reasons we have grown so rapidly is that I, along with our entire team at Bottom Line, have a problem saying, "Sorry, the bus is full.” You should try telling a student who knocks on your door that he or she is too late and missed the chance, when you know that a college degree is one of the only pathways out of poverty for kids in the inner city. Since the very first year I spent at Bottom Line, I knew that we needed to find a way to help more students. I am pleased to say that since that time we have built one of the most effective, efficient and student-focused college access and success programs available to urban youth anywhere in America. But our work is not done.
For those of you not familiar with Bottom Line, I encourage you to visit our website, www.BottomLine.org to learn more, and to read some of the stories about the students in our program. The more you read, the more you too will want to find a way to help.
In each of the last two years, Bottom Line has fielded a team of runners who have sweated through a challenging training program and completed the Marathon. In doing so, they have helped us raise more than $150,000 to support hundreds of deserving students. Now, it is my turn.
I am running the Boston Marathon to raise money for Bottom Line to help students who otherwise wouldn’t have a chance get a college degree. I am also running the Boston Marathon to help my daughters, Cora and Hadley, understand that with hard work and (a lot of) practice you can clear some pretty big hurdles. I am running the Boston Marathon because I am out of excuses about why I can’t or I shouldn’t.
I hope that you will consider supporting my run with a donation which will be used to support the students that we serve. Every penny will go directly to Bottom Line -- there are no credit card or administrative fees on this website! I hope you will also share the information about Bottom Line and my run with your friends and others who might be interested.
Thank you!
Greg
