Greening Greenfield is a group of concerned citizens working with residents, businesses and government to make Greenfield more sustainable.

Did you know that action about community sustainability, climate change and energy conservation is happening in Greenfield? Greening Greenfield is happy to report to you that:

  • Sustainability is now a part of Greenfield’s lexicon: our more energy efficient high school is 1/3 complete; the Town’s electric aggregation plan will offer 100% green electricity to all Greenfield residents on January 1, 2015; new LED street lights go on at sundown: solar panels from the Greenfield Solar Challenge are going onto roofs throughout town; and an additional solar farm for the Town is in the works.
  • The Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee has two Greening Greenfield members overseeing the implementation of the results of the Sustainable Master Plan.
  • Public art is making Greenfield a more visually interesting place—check out our recycled benches, two murals; and the “Brookie” sculpture.

These are just a few of the signs that we demonstrate that our work is bearing fruit.

But we are a long way from being done! In 2015, we are

  • Planning a Community-Shared Solar project to offer renters and others the benefit of solar power through a cooperatively-owned solar farm.
  • Offering a film series that concentrates on creating solutions to environmental challenges.
  • Pleased that our third forum: Creating a Bold New Economy engaged 175 people from 22 towns in conversation about where we want our economy to go.
  • Bringing sustainability into the classroom through our fourth Science and Sustainability Expo for middle and high school students. And And this is only part of our work. You can see that we are busy!
