Amy Donovan, recycler extraordinaire, was one of our many recent Green Heroes.

Greening Greenfield is a group of concerned citizens working with residents, businesses and government to make Greenfield more sustainable.

Did you know that real differences of consciousness on climate change and energy conservation are taking place in Greenfield? Greening Greenfield is happy to report to you that:

  • Sustainability is now a part of Greenfield’s lexicon: the new more energy efficient high school is 1/3 complete; the Town’s electric aggregation plan will soon offer 100% green electricity to all Greenfield residents; new LED street lights go on at sundown: solar panels from the Greenfield Solar Challenge are going onto roofs throughout town; and an additional solar farm for the Town is in the works.
  • The new Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee has two Greening Greenfield members overseeing the implementation of the results of the Sustainable Master Plan
  • Public art is starting to make Greenfield a more interesting place—check out our recycled benches, our two murals; and the Brookie sculpture.

These are just a few of the signs that we have seen that our work is bearing fruit.

But we are a long way from being done. We have some big projects planned for 2015. We are

  • Planning a Community-Shared Solar project which will offer renters and others the opportunity to benefit from solar power through a cooperatively-owned solar farm.
  • Offering a film series that concentrates on creating solutions to environmental challenges.
  • Pleased that our third forum: Creating a Bold New Economy engaged 175 people from throughout the region in conversation about creating a more sustainable local and regional economy.
  • Planning our fourth Science and Sustainability Expo for middle and high school students which supports teachers and students in bringing sustainability into the classroom.

And this is only part of our work. You can see that we are busy!
