A handful of media conglomerates publish 80 percent of the books produced in the United States. Support independent publishing!

About Us

Graywolf Press is dedicated to the creation and promotion of thoughtful and imaginative contemporary literature essential to a vital and diverse culture.

Founded in 1974, Graywolf Press is an independent publisher of poetry, fiction, and literary nonfiction. In our first thirty-five years, we have brought the work of more than 300 authors and translators to readers across the country and around the world.

Graywolf Press supports the development of authors, not just single books. As a nonprofit organization and one of the leading independent publishers in the nation, Graywolf is in a unique position to cultivate relationships with writers over time, to be unhurried in the editorial process, and to make the entire publishing process an experience that will add to an author's development. With the stabilizing support of grants and contributions, Graywolf can prize artistic merit above commercial sales and consider authors at all points in their careers, and an audience for a writer can be cultivated over the course of several books.

How Can You Help?

As a nonprofit, we rely upon the financial support of generous individual donors to achieve our mission.

Whether you make an outright gift that can be used immediately or commit to give in the future with a deferred gift, you will join a community of passionate book lovers eager to ensure that talented writers thrive and that their books reach the hands of spirited, curious readers.

Start here today, by making a one-time or ongoing donation to Graywolf's annual operating fund. Consider a special gift in honor or memory of a loved one. Join one of our major donors clubs, the Editor or Author Circle, for extra-special benefits like private author gatherings. And remember Graywolf Press when making your estate plans, to leave a legacy of good literature for generations to come!
