TERRE HAUTE — Shirley A. Mimms, 74, of Terre Haute, died peacefully with her family at her side, Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, in Methodist Hospital, in Indianapolis. She was born July 7, 1937, in Terre Haute, to Joseph A. Curley and Florence Farley Curley. Shirley was the owner/operator of S.A.M. Daycare.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Wesley Mimms; six sons, Joseph A. Fitch Jr. and his wife Michelle of Rockaway Beach, Ore., Kenneth A. Fitch of Sullivan, Phillip A. Fitch and his wife Lori Quinn of Carlisle, Gregory J. Mimms and his wife Denise of Zionsville, James W. Mimms and his wife Lana of Terre Haute, and Brian A. Mimms and his wife Dot of Terre Haute; one daughter, Leslie A. Mimms of Westfield; one stepson, Randy Mimms of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Kenneth Curley and his wife Helen, and Edward Curley and his wife Donna, all of Terre Haute; three sisters, Barbara Pfeiffer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Alice Heubel and her husband George of Greenwood, and Mary McCracken and her husband Larry of Arizona; four sisters-in-law, Leora Curley of Terre Haute, Beverly Curley of West Terre Haute, Meyon Mimms of Orlando, Fla., and Julie Mimms of Palatka, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, Joseph Fitch III and his wife Andrea, Rachel Elmalawany, Casey Fitch, April Fitch, Amber Fitch, Ashley Fitch, Amanda Quinn, McKenzie Mimms, Delaney Mimms, Jared Mimms, Alex Mimms, Sam Mimms, Paul Mimms, Mark Mimms; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Lawrence Curley, Gerald Curley, and Joseph Curley, Jr.
Shirley was a member of St. Joseph University Parish and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Hobbies included crocheting, traveling and raising bulldogs.
