Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and School of Theatre Arts

Mission: Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and School of Theatre arts is committed to enhancing the cultural life of West Michigan by creating opportunities for people to enjoy live-theatre performances using community artists, and to have access to a comprehensive theatre arts education program for all ages.

Programs: Civic Theatre serves almost 120,000 audience members and over 2,000 students in its School each year. These services are made possible through the efforts of over 800 volunteers under the direction of its professional staff and teachers. The productions provide performance and technical production opportunities for each show through an open audition and recruitment process. The School of Theatre Arts offers classes in movement, dance, voice, acting and technical theatre through 3 sessions during the school year and special camps during the summer.

Throughout its history, Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and School of Theatre Arts has reached out to the community with a number of activities and programs designed to recognize and address the needs of greater Grand Rapids – one of the fastest growing areas in the state of Michigan.

During the 2007 - 2008 season, over 800 volunteers gave over 62,000 hours to provide more than 120,000 community members the enriched experience of live theatre. Last year, our nationally recognized school enrolled more than 1,800 students and its Traveling Troupe outreach program provided this same life-enriching experience to 6,000 individuals whose economic or physical circumstances would have otherwise left them excluded.
