Passion is more than a conference. More than an event. More than a feeling. Passion is 50,000+ lives changed for Jesus Christ.
What, exactly, did Passion 2012 do in my life nearly one year ago? Well, to start, you should know a little bit about my life. I moved to Denver in August 2011 to go to school, and when I got here I was terrified. I had left everything safe in my life - my childhood friends, my small town, even my broken family was safer than this new place because it was familiar. To me, going to church was a chore that I had grown so accustomed to that I just found a church and started showing up like I always had. Thank God that church was Flatirons. And thank God a close friend pressured me into going to Passion. I paid for it early in the semester and didn't think a lot of it, really.
Well as my first semester of college went on, I got extremely busy with school and I stopped coming to church. I was stuck going to Passion, though, because I already paid for it... so I ended up showing up for the field trip truly having no clue what was in store for me. I knew two people going on the trip... two people out of two hundred! By the end of the week, though, I walked away with some of the best friends I have ever had.
For me, Passion was an awakening I didn't even know I needed. I had gone through a miserable breakup just weeks before getting on the bus to Passion, I had begun to see church as a chore, and I honestly gave up on all I knew about who Jesus was. Passion opened my eyes and my heart to a beautiful, real relationship with Jesus that I never even knew was possible.
This year at Passion I hope to have a completely new experience. My parents are just now getting a divorce after 25 years of marriage, and I hope to find a safe getaway of love, community, and healing on this trip. Please help me experience Jesus in ways that I never have before.
