Enduring for Ovarian Cancer
Georgette Pinillos fundraising for OVARIAN CANCER RESEARCH FUND INC
In honor of my cousin Jacqueline Bayley and in support of all women fighting this silent disease.
On August 27th, my cousin Jackie lost her battle to ovarian cancer. She courageously fought the disease for over two years and was an inspiration to so many for her faith, strength and perseverance.
In 1989, my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. My father had just lost his battle to melanoma and we went to live with my cousin Jackie and her family, including my Tia Marta (my mother's sister) in Grand Rapids while my mother received treatment. Jackie took me in like a sister, sharing her room and bed with me for many months during that difficult time. My mother made it through and is 22 years healthy. She was diagnosed early, but for many women, ovarian cancer gives no warning.
On October 16, 2011, I am running the Detroit Half Marathon in honor and memory of Jackie. I run for Jackie and to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for this disease.
