Who We Are // Globemed at Bethel University
Founded in 2011, GlobeMed at Bethel Universiy is one of 46 GlobeMed chapters working to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world. Our chapter partners with REDA in Sway Rieng, Cambodia. Together, we work to enable rural families vulnerable to persistant poverty to secure economic, health, social and civic living conditions.
Our Partner // REDA, in Svay Rieng, Cambodia
REDA, (Rural Econonmic Development Association) was established in August 15, 1993 in the Svay Rieng province of Cambodia. REDA provides social support and counsling to people living wth HIV/AIDS and suffering chornic illnesses. Programs facilitated by REDA include an Interated Care and Prevention team, agriculture skills for improved livelihood, health system strengthening, vocation training for young adults, water & oral rehydration, and an orphanage which houses 28 children. It is REDA's continued intention to repsond to these challenges and support households to become self-sufficient, thereby keeping families together.
Our Project // $3,500 for installation of water pumps and toilets
This year, GlobeMed at Bethel Univeristy is aiming to raise $3,500 to install water pumps and toilets into the home of 7 families. Most of the families in the region do no have accss to either a water pump or a toilet near their home; 91% of residents in the Svay Rieng Province do not have access to a toilet. Those receiving water pumps and toilets include HIV familes, widows and disabled families. This year, GlobeMEd at Bethel Univeristy is aiming to raise $3,500 to install water pumps and toilets into the home of 7 families. Most of the families in the region do no have accss to either a water pump or a toilet near their home. Funds will be used to cover the costs of materials while the families with REDA's aid will dig the a well and build a toilet. Those receiving water pumps and toilets include HIV familes, poor and very poor families, widows and disabled families.
