GlobeMed at MIT

A project of GlobeMed

GlobeMed at MIT Partners with Hope through Health in Kara, Togo to support their HIV/AIDS clinics

Who We Are // GlobeMed at MIT

Founded in 2011, GlobeMed at MIT is a student-led organization with a lot of enthusiasm, passion and ambition to improve the health of people living in poverty. To work towards global heath and promote health as a human right, we are partnered with Hope Through Health (HTH), a non-profit organization that works to improve the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS in Togo. Throughout the year, we work collaboratively with HTH to develop projects and initiatives that aim to improve the capacity and efficiency of their healthcare services for HIV+ adults and children in Togo.

Our Partner // Hope Through Health in Kara, Togo

Hope Through Health (HTH) works with a grassroots, community-led organization called AED-Lidaw, which empowers over 2700 HIV+ patients to design, deliver, and evaluate their own community-based care. HTH also works with AED-Lidaw to increase access to care, prevent the spread of HIV from mother to child, and provide community psychosocial services.

Our Project // $5000 for Improving Pharmacy Capacity and Management

Our Project has three main objectives:

  1. Provide technologies to increase capacity and efficiency – their clinics lack the technological capacity needed to efficiently track medication usage for their patients. As their clinics rely on paper-based medical records, we wish to also provide the technology and systems needed to establish an electronic medication-tracking database.
  2. Computer training for staff members and pharmacists – to fully implement the technologies, clinic workers need to be trained to use the system and machines. We hope to either pay local people to train them or to send MIT students in the summer to conduct computer literacy training.
  3. Supplement stipends for the two pharmacy coordinators – the trained pharmacists, who are also HIV+, need to be funded for the time they dedicate to the clinic and to helping other HIV+ patients

We Need Your Support! Your money would go towards helping HTH provide more effective healthcare to HIV+ patients in Togo. By increasing technological capacity and improving computer literacy, we will be helping HTH and AED-Lidaw drastically improve the delivery of healthcare by eliminating the inconsistencies associated with the use of paper-based data collection and the inefficiencies in manually managing medications for over 2700 patients.
