HHC is a grassroots NGO that provides primary health care, community education, and income generation to people living in remote and impoverished regions of Nepal. HHC supports communities in the districts of Dhading, Dolakha and IIam.

In 2004, HHC launched a community hospital in IIam District that serves a catchment area of over 350,000 people in the surrounding 48 villages and two large towns. HHC has improved the standards and enrollment in its village schools by providing funding, supplies, and training programs to expand the opportunities for the children in those communities.

HHC also catalyzes entrepreneurial projects in its communities that generate income, including handicraft production in partnership with the US-based S.P.I.R.A.L. Foundation that has generated employment for over 1000 rural women and additional income to sustain some of HHC’s programs.

Current Projects

We have selected four projects for 2010-2011:

• Village latrine program ($5,000): Providing $5000 for a revolving fund established in HHC’s villages will allow for 30 household latrines to be built with 50% financial commitment from village members. This will allow for a total restructuring of the water and sanitation situation in the village.

• Income Generation Project ($5,000): Providing funding for HHC’s program that provides low caste Kami women with income generation opportunities. The impact of this program in the long term is to empower the women to help reduce high rate of domestic violence and alcoholism as well as improve the poor education and health in the Kami community.

• Computers for the Hospital in Illam ($5,500): HHC built and operates a hospital in the Ilam district of Nepal that serves over 350,000 Nepali men, women, and children. The current software of the hospital is out of date and new computers are necessary for internet, patient registration, accounting, lab reports, x-rays and a many other vital features.

• Nutrition Project ($5,000): HHC is currently providing severely malnourished children with Ready To Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in the remote district of Dhading, and our funding will go to support this initiative.
