Who We Are // GlobeMed at CU Boulder
Through our long-term partnership with the NGO Himalayan HealthCare, GlobeMed at CU Boulder strives to be the most effective student run nonprofit organization in the state of Colorado. Our partner Himalayan HealthCare is working to improved the lives of many in underserved remote villages in Nepal with the motto help others help themselves. Their projects work to improve basic sanitation, improve medical care through permanent health outposts and medical treks, as well as educate and empower women and children to make tangible changes in their lives and communities.
Our Partner - Himalayan HealthCare // Jawalakhel, Nepal
HHC is a grassroots NGO that provides primary health care, community education, and income generation to people living in remote and impoverished regions of Nepal. HHC supports communities in the districts of Dhading, Dolakha and Ilam.
HHC believes that the tri-prong approach of primary health care, community education and income generation is the best way to address poverty and illness. Education is invaluable part of the solution realized through the tri-prong approach and HHC strives to educate rural villagers in not only literacy skills but in family planning, nutrition and other aspects that affect health. In the Dhading district alone, HHC sponsors 24 students in 5 different schools with tuition and school supplies. HHC supports 3 students from these rural areas within their higher studies to gain further medical business trainings in Kathmandu Universities.
HHC also catalyzes entrepreneurial projects in its communities that generate income, including handicraft production in partnership with the US-based JeevanKala that has generated employment for over 1000 rural women and additional income to sustain some of HHC’s programs.

Our Project // $10,000 to Student Sponsorships and Education in Nepal
This project is aimed to give selected sponsored students at various levels of education, (primary, secondary, and higher education studies), the opportunity to receive education whether it is in the local villages or Kathmandu. Ultimately, HHC believes students whom receive these assistantships should give back to their home communities, and utilize their training and education to positively impact the community as they see fit.
1. As a partnership, GlobeMed at CU-Boulder and HHC aim to support 25-35 students across the three villages of Tipling, Sherthung, and Lapa to support students of all ages so they can return and be future leaders in their communities.
2. Students selected will continue to receive sponsorships if they show financial need, maintain good standing in school (good grades and attendance records), and demonstrate that HHC’s support is benefitting them and their families.
3. Support for improved school infrastructures, school land and schoolresources (computers, library books, and classroom furniture) aim to improve the learning environment for students of all ages across the Dhading district.
4. High achieving students who would like to further their education in medicine or business will receive continued support in a Kathmandu University. The students must apply for personal scholarships, be accepted into the institution of their choice and demonstrate the passion to give back to their communities.
