gF is a groundbreaking non-profit organization dedicated to fostering cultural exchange through its festival, touring fund and more.
gF was started In 2003 to create a groundbreaking 1-night, 3-stage, 12-band world music showcase/festival seeking to move international music to the center of the performing arts field during the Arts Presenters conference. Over the last ten years we have showcased more than 100 groups and over 1,000 artists! Bookings resulting from gF have helped to build an ever-widening audience for world music and served to increase international cooperation and collaboration.
In 2010 gF incorporated into its own non-profit cultural organization. In 2011 globalFEST launched the gF Touring Fund (gFTF) open to all alumni artists intended to enhance touring opportunities by providing much needed support directly to tour-ready artists to reach new audiences
In March 2012 gF curated its own stage at the hugely influential SXSW conference and festival and in June 2012, gF was invited to curate a stage at the beloved Bonnaroo jam band music festival alongside Radiohead, Re Hot Chili Peppers, Fun, St Vincent, Bad Brains, Questlove, D'Angelo and more. globalFEST’s participation in these and other events including a night with the psychedelic Joshua Light Show and "NY Day" at Festival d'Ile de France, serve to break down the barriers between the non-profit performing arts field and the commercial landscape. This infiltration plays a role in developing new audiences for a wide variety of music styles especially among younger, college and post-college age active music fans, creates new opportunities for world music artists and supports diverse programming in the performing arts field and beyond.
In May 2012 globalFEST received its 501(c)3 status, an important turning point allowing us fundraise and plan for our next phase of development as a service organization for the presenting field and as a year-round resource for curators, global music artists, and the live music industry as a whole.
