GFAS is dedicated to strengthening and supporting the work of animal sanctuaries and rescue centers worldwide.
The Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries helps sanctuaries to help animals, and it is participating in #GivingTuesday this year to raise funds to help GFAS place animals in need.
When animals are living in conditions such as those shown in the pictures above, GFAS is often called upon to assist in removing these animals from their terrible conditions and placing them into new homes. The funds raised during Giving Tuesday will assist in veterinary, transport and food costs in making sure these animals are safely moved to new sanctuaries/rescues where they will be cared for under the best conditions.
GFAS is the only globally recognized organization providing standards for identifying legitimate animal sanctuaries and rescue centers. GFAS awards "Accredited" or "Verified" status to organizations after they complete applications and undergo review, including a site inspection, to confirm that they meet standards of excellence in animal care and that they meet the definition of a true sanctuary/rescue center. This includes ethical practices in fundraising and the acquisition of animals, prohibition of commercial trade in animals, and restrictions on captive breeding and research. Accredited facilities undergo further review in areas of governance, finance, written policies, education and outreach.
