Give and Surf serves a small indigenous population of Ngobe Indians in the island archipelago of Bocas del Toro, Panama. Our education programs are a preschool, comprehensive after-school program, summer camp, adult ESL classes, baseball team, and more. We are also heavily involved in community development work and our previous accomplishments include a playground, water catchment systems, bathroom installations, roof construction, sustainable chicken project, and school maintenance.

Highlighted are our three core educational programs.

Monso Chi Escuelita: Panama does not offer public preschool education in spite of a universal acceptance that early childhood education is a critical component to a child’s development. This of course has effected Panama’s education system and the development of its children. For this reason we opened a preschool in September 2011 for all the Bahia Honda children ages 3-5. Our days consist of developing our future all stars personalities through activities, projects, lessons, playing games, painting, drawing, and special field trips.

Our comprehensive summer/after school camp focuses on providing the elementary aged children with a enriching and engaging environment to participate in lessons, activities, learn english, and further develop their understanding of the world. This program was initiated as a supplement to the inadequate public education provided. We also give the children of Bahia Honda the chance to go on field trips outside the local community. Through our program we hope to provide the educational support needed to reverse the unfortunate trends seen in public education around the archipelago.

We provide the dedicated adults of Bahia Honda with the opportunity to learn english twice a week. Learning english is tremendously important for the adults to progress and have employment opportunities. We are very happy to provide our dedicated 10 with English classes and further their understanding of english.
