In a country where every 29 seconds a baby is born in poverty. The U.S. has one of the highest child poverty rates in the developed world. There is a disproportionate number of black and Latino children that cannot read or are not reading at grade level. The likelihood of incarceration for a child in poverty is very high, 1 in 3 black children and 1 and 6 Latino children are at risk of imprisonment in their lifetime. The likelihood of graduating with high school diploma and/or competing for better pay or living emotionally, mentally, intellectually and spiritually developed lives are low for children in poverty.

OCA exists to end generational and situational poverty by offering a transformational education experience, coupled with cultivating a community of justice. OCA believes that every child demands the right to flourish no matter their background! Through a 90% scholarship program, students whose parents would not normally have the opportunity of enrolling their child in a private, school that offers a high, quality education can now afford to do so! A high, quality education that enables a child to flourish; produce innovators and servant-leaders; and nurture students to come out of school ready and competitive for this every-changing, globalized world.

I am hopeful that through this educational experience students will become like the name of OCA refers to: "oaks of righteousness," and they will rebuild their ancient ruins, repair the ruins of their cities and the devastations of many generations!
