On April 15th I will be running the Boston Marathon for an amazing charity called Dream Big! I ask for your encouragement and support!
With less than 1 week until Marathon Monday, I am feeling more motivated than ever to run the Boston Marathon for Dream Big! I am currently running about 35 miles per week in preparation for the big day and the longer runs and your support are giving me the confidence to believe I might be able to make it!
As some of you know I ran competitively in high school, but hung up my running shoes many years ago. Last summer, I was inspired to dust of the shoes and hit the streets! The motivation came from a great charity called Dream Big!
Dream Big! is a charity that provides low-income and homeless girls with sports and fitness equipment, uniforms, athletic footwear, program fees, training expenses, and the supplies girls need to participate in sports and physical activities. As you know participation in sports and athletics not only contributes to fitness but is central to good self-esteem and long term health.
Growing up, I look back at my time playing soccer and running track and cross country as especially formative in the person I've become today. I learned about teamwork. I learned the value of hard work from coaches. I learned that exercise is lots of fun.
Unfortunately, poverty severly limits young girl's involvement with sports and phyical activities. I am running the marathon (and raising money) so that all of the great benefits that come from athletics won't pass Boston's girls and young women by.
Over the next few months, the Dream Big! Marathon Team, which includes 14 runners from all over the world, will work to raise over $75,000 for Dream Big!. My personal goal is $5000. Thanks to many generous donors, I am making good progress towards my goal, but I could use your help!
The money I raise will help to impact thousands of girls this year. Whether through an equipment grant for a new pair of sneakers or a new volleyball net so a high school can have their first ever home game, or a scholarship so a girl can take dance lessons (like my daughter Anne!), or a scholarship to a sports camp, I'm going to cross the finish line (and run hundreds of miles preparing to get to the starting line) so that the lives of these girls will be changed.
I ask for your encouragement and financial pledge. No donation is too small!
