Fund a Camp Session

Fund Camp Heartland & Birch Camp sessions in Minnesota, California & New York for hundreds of children and families affected by HIV/AIDS .

Founded in 1993 by then 22-year-old Neil Willenson, Camp Heartland, now a program of One Heartland, provides hope, compassion, friendship and fun to children and youth infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. 72 campers came the first week of Camp Heartland. Since then, One Heartland has provided over 7,000 camp experiences to children and youth facing HIV/AIDS, poverty, foster care, grief and other life challenges. Campers enjoy a typical camping experience with canoeing, arts and crafts, swimming, archery, and drama as well as have the opportunity to meet others dealing with similar issues. Over half of Camp Heartland campers are private about their HIV/AIDS status in their own communities and so for many, this is the first time they choose to share this part of their life.

In 2007, Camp Heartland, now One Heartland, expanded to serve entire families living with HIV/AIDS from New York City through the Birch Family Camp program. Over 250 family members living in the 5 boroughs of New York come to week long camping sessions; fun for the children and respite for parents facing the hardships of life with HIV/AIDS.

Camp Heartland and Birch Family Camp help provide a community to individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS that extends throughout the year. As the majority of those who attend these camp sessions live in poverty, One Heartland's programs and services are provided free of charge.
