Raising funds to support Franklin Park Coalition and their efforts to provide a safe, healthy environment and cultural activities for all.
HEARTBREAK HILL – TAKE TWO!
Also known as “let’s try this again”! Oh boy, isn’t that the truth. Last year my motto was “Shari Conquers Heartbreak Hill for the Youth”. For those that remember the record breaking temperatures last year you know there was no conquering Heartbreak Hill. We had all trained so hard for this marathon and had our race day plans formulated. When it became clear that the temperatures were not going to cooperate and we were going to be “running” in extreme heat, all goals and plans went out the window and our mission was simply to complete the marathon and survive.
In 2012 I ran for the youth – the opportunities and resources provided by Franklin Park Coalition (FPC) including jobs, volunteers, educational, cultural and recreational activities. This will not change in 2013 – I will again run for the youth. Although we hope the weather for the 2013 Boston Marathon will be different than 2012 there are other issues that have not and will not change: lack of resources, activities and recreational areas for inner city youths.
I was fortunate to have a great support system last year with regard to training, fundraising and encouragement before and day of the marathon. I know this will be present again this year and I am thankful for this support system – my “lifeline”. Franklin Park Coalition is a “lifeline” for the youth by providing opportunities and encouragement.
I will once again train, raise money, bring awareness and . . . . conquer!!!! For more information please visit www.franklinparkcoalition.org and for updates on the team check out the team blog on http://fpcmarathoncharityteam.blogspot.com.
We can do this - we can train, bring awareness, raise money and have fun. I look forward to sharing this incredible experience of supporting the phenomenal work and efforts of FPC while training for and running the Boston Marathon. See you at Heartbreak Hill!
