I want to help the hardworking mothers of the Dominican Republic send their children to school without the expense
My husband and I have visited the Dominican Republic 9 times. On one of our earliest visits we saw groups of children walking and singing toting their backpacks fully loaded in 90 degree temperatures. One little boy kept looking back and in my embarassingly poor Spanish I said hello, where are you going? He smiled and said in perfect English TO SCHOOL He was SIX. He ran over and gave me a hug! I was speechless as he ran to join his friends and waved, I will never forget his smile
The street we were walking on was made of dirt with rock everywhere. There were motorcycles, people pulling carts of fruit and vegetable. Then roaring down the road, the same road the children were walking on , came many huge TOUR buses. THe children rushed to the side as the tourist were in a hurry to get to their holiday!
Several women ran into the road to rush the children to safety without any concern for their own safety. I was in tears as my husband and I rushed to the women and children...again in my poor Spanish it should have been hard to communicate, but it was not!. Each child was checked, dusted off, backpacks readjusted and hugged and happily continued on to school as if nothing happened.
THis is an everyday occurence. Mothers make sure their children are properly attired and have what they need for school even if they have to work two jobs. Since that time we visit at least one school donating much needed supplies and moral support to the mothers who work so hard so that their children will be able to go to school! It is a lesson we here in the States and other parts of the world should learn.
A MOTHERS LOVE IS UNCONDITIONAL EVEN AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE AND ALWAYS WITH A SMILE Please help these mothers provide the ability for their children to attend school
I visited 3 Mariposa Montessori School in Cabarete in April this year and the children, mothers that volunteer(along with having a job) and the staff are forever in my heart and prayers!
While our 3MM team of teachers, students and parents are dedicated to creating an effective model for early childhood education, our success depends on your support. 75% of our students live in poverty, and your donations are the only way we are able to offset these disparities. Your A Mother’s Wish donation will be used to sponsor a child and cover the cost of his/her tuition for the 2012/2013 school year.
