Food For Life uses food to train low-income young adults in DC, empowering them to become change agents in their lives and communities
Food For Life ran a six-month pilot program as a culinary training opportunity/catering venture for DC high school graduates who are unemployed and currently without educational/vocational options.
Once a week, a small group of students entered a positive and supportive kitchen environment where they learned culinary skills by catering in real-time: preparing a 2-3 course dinner for up to 50 donors to the program.
Food For Life's vision aims to connect these young adults with life skills training as well as mentoring and discipleship relationships so that they can be better equipped to pursue their life goals, inside and outside professional kitchens.
Now in a planning and program development stage, Food For Life will launch as a full program in Spring 2012.
