8 young adults from the First United Methodist Church in Greeley, CO are raising money for a mission trip to Belize to build a high school.
Education is one of the primary indicators used to measure the development of a country, and as well as being a preparation for the labor market, it is about character development and social participation. Whilst the government recognizes that something needs to be done, and has allocated the largest slice (23%) of its budget to education, one of the main dilemmas is the fact that school resources are not enough to meet the needs of the nation's children. Exclusion from education is one of the worst forms of social and economic discrimination against a person and leads to numerous problems for society in general. One of the main fears in Belize is that these youths who do not attend school will end up becoming involved in gang culture, violence and drugs.
Our goal as a local church is to spread the light of Jesus Christ to a part of the world that really needs it, while growing closer together spiritually with each other and God. We believe that the trip will have a tremendous impact on both the young adults who participate, and those with whom our group interacts while we are there.
During our time in Belize (June 1st-June 8th, 2013), we will be working on a high school that is currently under construction, and is expected to open in September of 2013.
Please consider partnering with us financially, before May 1st, 2013 to help make this trip a reality. Thank You and God Bless!
