A project of KHADARLIS FOR SIERRA LEONE
Medical supplies, Education, Access to Care. One clinic. 22 villages- we need your help!
Khadarlis: Our Mission for Health In Sierra Leone:
Villages in Sierra Leone are in desperate need of healthcare supplies, making it a priority for Khadarlis to provide assistance. The clinic shown above was one of our most recent projects, a concerted effort by our organization, donors, and the people of Sierra Leone. The clinic serves 22 villages and is the only clinic in the Barbgo Chiefdom in the Bo district of Sierra Leone. The people in these rural villages recieve little government or global assistance for heatlhcare. Built by local people and volunteers, the clinic has helped to improve the health of all the villages it serves.
The focus of Khadarlis’ public health plan is to prevent and manage diseases, injuries and other health conditions through surveillance of cases and the promotion of healthy behaviors, communities and environments. Although our main goal is prevention, we also want to minimize recurrent health problems by facilitating educational programs, developing policies, administering services and conducting research.
In many cases, treating a disease or controlling a pathogen can be vital to preventing it in others — especially during an outbreak. We work to help implement preventative health measures, vaccination programs, and provide basic medical supplies for acute needs. We also address the issue of public access to health care, in terms of financial, geographical and socio-cultural constraints. Khadarlis’ public health system includes prenatal/pediatric and maternal health, HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, health services administration, emergency response, and prevention and control of infectious and chronic diseases.
First Aid Sierra Leone:
I am a Rhode Island native, currently studying medicine at Brown Alpert Medical School. My sister is a highschool student also helping me lead this project. In an effort to take on a piece of Khadarlis' goal to deliver and improve healthcare in Sierra Leone we are gathering support for the clinic...any amount is appreciated!
