Contributions to support Financial Matters will help provide financial literacy education to Minnesota students.
Financial Matters was established as an independent program of BestPrep in June of 2011. The effort began as an initiative of the Classroom Plus program. Due to the demand, growth potential, fit within BestPrep’s core competencies and volunteer commitment, the program was spun off and now stands on its own as an independent BestPrep program. Classroom Plus, BestPrep’s flagship program, will continue to focus on placing business and career speakers in classrooms.
The Financial Matters program equips students with the tools necessary to develop sound management skills. Through Financial Matters, industry professionals deliver presentations focused on financial literacy. From credit to scholarships, budgeting to buying a car, the program provides students with real-life lessons in money management. Now, more than ever, is the time to ensure students become financially capable.
Financial Matters includes six pre-created, interactive PowerPoint presentations: Money Matters, Budgeting Matters, Credit Matters, Investing Matters, Tax Matters and 100 Deadliest Days. “Money Matters” is designed to teach students about the culture of money, financial fundamentals and the importance of saving. “Budgeting Matters” focuses on needs vs. wants, benefits of budgeting and setting short and long term goals. “Credit Matters” discusses appropriate uses of credit, credit scores and benefits and drawbacks of credit. “Investing Matters” teaches investing basics, strategies and the importance of diversification. “Tax Matters” will be developed this year in partnership with the Minnesota Society of CPAs and will focus on tax issues. Delivered in classrooms by Allstate Insurance agents, “100 Deadliest Days” teaches teens about the economic costs of driving.
