Family Values for Life is a faith based organization that connects families on the East Side of St. Paul to community resources.
Family Values for Life (FVFL) was birthed from our executive director, Alfreda Flowers’ passion and extensive experience with families. She provided daycare services for 18 years; worked in the St. Paul school system's family resource centers, and homeless shelters; raised her eight children with Christian values; has grown stronger through the loss of her companion; and has worked with families at her church for over 35 years.
“All of my life experiences — serving at family resource centers, going through the grieving process after my husband’s home going, raising my eight children — have made me a stronger, more faith-filled woman. With everything that I have experienced, I am finally strong enough to give back to my brothers and sisters,” says Alfreda.
FVFL focuses its work on the entire family unit. By engaging both parents and children we can make a stronger, more sustainable impact on the family, and in turn, the entire community.
This is achieved through a number of our programs. Over 500 individuals attended the Back to School Event at Wilder Recreation Center on August 31, 2010 - roughly 400 more than the estimated attendance. 200 backpacks were given out and roughly 50 haircuts were provided to children. The community came together for one of the best attended events put on with the Recreational Center in 20 years.
This is just a one example of how FVFL is touching the lives of families in East St. Paul.
