Jessica's Story
“When I found out I was pregnant, I cried,” said Jessica, a first time mom. Jessica lost her mother when she was eight years old, and was worried that she wouldn’t be able to be a mother because she no longer had a mother. In addition, as a single parent with mental health challenges, Jessica had several parenting risk factors.
In October of 2008, Jessica began receiving regular home visits from Maria, a Family Resource Center parent educator. Jessica said, “I can’t explain how scared I was before Maria started coming.” But after a few visits with Maria, who helped Jessica learn about parenting and child development, Jessica said she began to feel that “I can do this.” Reflecting on her experience as a mother, Jessica said:
“Parenthood has definitely made me a stronger person. It’s really put me through a journey, but it’s well worth it.”
All donations are received and receipted by Razoo Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) charity that operates a donor advised fund to fulfill donor advisements.
