Rebuilding Together San Francisco provides free repair and renovation programs for low-income, elderly and disabled San Franciscans.
After working in development with Rebuilding Together San Francisco and being a new resident of the city myself, I have seen firsthand the amazing impact this wonderful organization has had on the lives of the elderly, disabled and low-income families. Please help me raise funds to keep these individuals stay safe in their homes for years to come. We work with a population that is largely unnoticed and underserved. Your donations can really make a difference, through changing neighborhoods, we can change lives!
The Rebuilding Day program repairs and renovates homes of people who, due to age, financial limitations, or disability, cannot do the work themselves. Hundreds of skilled and unskilled volunteers give their time to create safer, brighter, and warmer environments. Repairs and renovations differ from house to house. The work may include: painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, weatherization, clean-up, yard work and other necessary repairs.
One example of an elderly individual who we've helped is Odessa, an 85 year old widow. Having purchased her home with her husband in 1944, she has raised 3 children and over 20 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren! Her husband passed away 12 years ago and she now has her disabled son living with her as well as her 16 year old great-granddaughter and her baby. So far we have installed a grab bar and bath tub bench in the shower to keep Odessa and her disabled son from falling and hurting themselves. But the house needs many more renovations, such as repairing the unuseable back steps that lead to the outside of the house as well as the front door which does not shut or lock properly due to a break in a few years ago. Please help me raise funds to help Odessa and other elderly like her stay safe!
