An annual design competition in which cans of food are used as building blocks, then donated to the Capital Area Food Bank.

The team with the most "votes" wins the People's Choice Award. One dollar = one vote. Support your favorite team by donating here. Voting ends 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8th.

Sponsored by the Washington Architectural Foundation and the Society for Design Administration, Canstruction D.C. uses one can of food as a catalyst for change; one can to represent the building blocks of massive sculptures; one can to prove that every act of kindness makes a difference.

Each year, D.C.-area teams comprising architects, engineers, builders, and students combine creativity and philanthropy, using cans of food to construct elaborate buildings, sculptures, and vignettes. All projects are put on display, and the public is invited to vote for their favorites by donating cans of food. When the event is complete, the structures are broken down and all cans of food used by the teams and donated by the public are given to the Capital Area Food Bank for distribution to those in need.

To date, Canstruction D.C. has donated more than 250 tons of food.

All You Need is LOVE

This iconic LOVE sculpture is one in a series made by Robert Indiana, which has spread its message of LOVE around the globe.

After the original production of the sculpture in 1970, it has since been reproduced in many forms and became the symbol for LOVE in cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Tokyo, Milan, Bilbao, and many more.

Our LOVE sculpture will help spread LOVE to those in need by feeding the hungry in Washington, DC.

Instead of being made of COR-TEN steel, this monument is made from over 4,700 cans of food! Built primarily of tomato sauce cans, accents of roasted chilis and jalapeno salsa help to spice things up and warm the soul.

There's nothing you can make that can't be made.

No one you can save that can't be saved.

Nothing you can do but spread the LOVE, so cast your vote today - it's easy!

All you need is love, love.

LOVE is all you need.
