EDT fosters understanding and awareness of world cultures through the re-creation and presentation of traditional ethnic dance and music.
The Ethnic Dance Theatre is an award-winning company that is dedicated to the artistic performance of world music, song and dance.
Founded in 1974 by Donald La Course and Jonathan Frey, thanks to you, EDT has brought over 50 different cultures and traditions to life in colorful and spellbinding performances.
Supporting EDT’s artistic goal of presenting authentic folklore and styling, your donation can bring in ethnic experts such as Seattle artist, John Morovich, whose Croatian choreography was staged for the spring 2012 show, Reflections on the Danube.
An important facet of folk traditions is costuming. We like to think that for every person on stage, there are actually two performers: the dancer and the costume. With your help, when possible, we can acquire costume pieces in the native country from which they originate. Your donation can also help support the research and creation of new pieces as well as the exhaustive work of storing and preserving the over 5,000 pieces in our collection.
We need your support to continue to celebrate our community’s cultural diversity, to involve and educate in school workshops, residencies and community dance parties.
