Please join me in raising $3000 towards a $6000 goal to give full scholarships to 2 students at Akilah. All funds go to the school directly
Beginning in January, 2012 and for each of the next 6 months I will support Akilah by cooking a dish for a deserving person or organization. Please help me to help Akilah by sponsoring a dish each month...and I am open to suggestions on what to prepare each month.
Akilah is truly an amazing story...it is such a positive and inspiring story and I feel blessed to be supporting Elizabeth Dearborn Davis and her team in this work. I hope that the school and, on a broader basis, the country's message of forgiveness and reconcilliation will move you as much it has me and inspire you to action as it has me. The Rwanda Genocide took root because of cultural naivity that allowed the people to believe false information. Education is the country's best insurance against this ever happening again. With a 70% majority female population, one of the best ways to help Rwanda rise from the scourge of the genocide and forge a strong future is by educating its young women--the future leaders of the country. Akilah is on the frontline of this and I am move to act and to help. And so I have teamed with Dianne Worrell (who will also be running marathons) to raise funds towards to providing scholarships to 2 Akilah students in the 2012 school year...please see our team's website at http://razoo.com/team/Akilahpineapplefillers.
I invite you to join our efforts and to join my team...as part of this team effort I will perform the most "grassroots" of activites that I could think of...and something that I am I told that I am good at doing and that is cooking. So, for each month that you donate to Akilah during our 6 month campaign, I am pledging to cook a dish and give it to a deserving person or organization. This can be to my church or a soup kitchen, etc. I hope that you will consider making a $25 or $50 donation to this cause, however any amount that you are moved to contribute is welcomed.
I will post updates about the 2 students that your donations are supporting so that you can see first hand the direct impact that your contributions are having on giving these young survivors of the genocide in giving them a chance for a bright future. These young women will become a part of the fabric of economic growth and re-building of Rwanda as a country.
