I'm running the 2012 Boston Marathon for a great organization! I'd love your support in any way shape or form!!

Running a marathon is something I’ve been talking about for a few years. I’ve always liked to be active but always thought I hated running. I started running after graduating college; being broke, with no job or car left me with a whole lot of time on my hands but not a lot I could do with it. Funny but true, I started running as a way to escape boredom. I started off slow and eventually found myself really starting to enjoy it. In 2010 I started working at Carney Hospital in Dorchester. Before I worked at Carney I had never stepped foot in DOT. However, over the past year or so I’ve spent a lot of time here and have come to love this vibrant, prospering and close-knit Boston neighborhood. It’s hard not to fall in love with the rich, cultural diversity that lays claim to many of its neighborhoods. Dorchester is a place filled with many great people, groups, organizations and businesses that come together to make this community a great place to be. That’s why I applied to run for the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester. I knew that I could take two parts of my life and combine them together to create something positive. I have two goals to reach; one is finishing the 26.2 mile trek through Boston and the other is raising $4,000.00 for the BGCD! I’m going to need a lot of help along the way to keep me going and to achieve my goal of raising $4,000.00! Please help me reach by goal of raising $4,000.00 for the BGCD! Your support will benefit:

  • * 4,000 youth and more than 200 programs offered in athletics, education, social recreation, arts, music, aquatics, childcare and more for $5 per year per member.
  • * Safe Summer Streets Program: Teens have access to our facilities from 9am-11pm Monday through Saturday during the summer months with a ride home at the end of the evening
  • * Afterschool programming from 2pm-8pm
  • * Hundreds of nutritious meals per day
  • * An all-expense paid trip to Disney for 150 kids each year
  • * Career services, job placement, college preparation, tutoring and educational resources
  • * Activities for children of different abilities through project B.I.N.D. (Boston Inclusion Network for Disabilities)
  • * An all-expense paid trip to Camp Northbound for 150 kids each year
  • * Field trips to museums, parks, shows and more
  • * New, affordable “Learn To” programs for children ages 3-5
  • * Triple Play Program, a national program strategy from Boys & Girls Clubs of America that challenges kids to lead healthier lives by learning new ways to eat healthily, be physically active, manage stress, and make other healthy choices. The Club has customized this successful program on a local level by offering an array of wellness-focused activities that take into account the economic, social and environmental factors that place Dorchester youth at high risk for childhood obesity.

Whether it’s a monetary donation or a kind word, anything helps and is greatly appreciated!
