Organizing & videotaping candidate forums, ballot measure debates, and candidate statements for voter resources on TV and the web.

"Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely."
Franklin D. Roosevelt

2012 is a big year for voters. It's not just about electing our president. It's about electing those who will run our cities, our schools, courts, and county. Who will best represent you in the state legislature? How to decide which side is right on local and county measures? Voters deserve more than slick mailers, SuperPacs, and lawn signs to make decisions that will impact so many parts of our lives.

Let's make sure to have debates and forums that allow us to judge candidates and issues on substance, not fluff. The Media Center, a not-for-profit agency, has been producing and televising candidate forums and ballot measure debates since we opened in 1990.

The Media Center also videotapes the city council meetings in East Palo Alto, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Belmont. We operate 5 public cable TV channels and webstream them all. We also train the public to make videos, lend out equipment, and nobody is turned away for lack of funds.

Your contributions will help us organize forums, candidate statements and debates at our studio; send video teams out to cover other community forums, prepare them for the internet and schedule them on cable TV. Your support will enable us to publicize these resources and empower voters in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.

We hope to cover 25 - 35 candidate races and issues between now and November. Each video will be accessible in segments, so voters can go directly to the questions most important to them and compare the answers from candidates or debaters. They'll be linked on popular web sites like the League of Women Voter's, Smartvoter and our own election site.

Help us create the tools that make our voters wise and our democracy strong!
