Empower is a women's initiative of United Way of West Central Minnesota focusing women's leadership to create lasting community change.

Empower is focusing women's leadership to prepare our children for kindergarten. Empower is working to have 80% of children prepared for school by 2012.

To be a part of Empower you can become a member or contribute to the initiative. All membership funds go directly toward the goal of kindergarten readiness. Empowers goals and priorities:
Advocate for basic needs of children ages 0-6
Support educational learning opportunities for children 0-6
Promote community progress toward school readiness

Empower's current projects and accomplishments include:
Growmobile: Mobile preschool providing access to early childhood and parent education for at risk children and families.

Early Learning Screening Packs: Provide every child in Kandiyohi County an early learning screening pack filled with learning activities and parent education.

Kindergarten Testing: Measure kindergarten readiness in area schools.

Community Project Grants: Provide dollars for early learning advancement & needs

Success by 6 Column in West Central Tribune: Tips and tricks for parents to help their children grow in learning in everyday moments.

Early Learning Shopping Trail: Shopping trails located in area retailers to help parents interact with their children while shopping.
