I have had the opportunity to participate in an amazing non- profit organization that is called builders beyond borders. This organization gives high school students the privilege to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity, by taking kids to help countries in need. Before the trip and throughout the year, we work together as a team to plan and get ready for the trip. Throughout the year we have time to do community service hours which prepares us for our trip In previous years students have built these countries amazing things such as homes, schools and bridges. Every year builders beyond borders picks a new place to visit and help, in past years they have been to Ecuador and Nicaragua. This year is the 20th year anniversary of Builders Beyond Borders and I am so honored to be a part of this organization and to help people in need.
This year Builders Beyond Borders has chosen to go to Guyana, which is a country in South America that is located near Venezuela and Brazil. I will be traveling there in April with a group of 30 kids and my group which is called team Rock-It. is going to a place in Guyana called Bethany for 10 days to help their community. Bethany is located in the northwestern part of Guyana and it covers about 17 square miles and is home to about 500 people with less than 100 homes. Bethany is an Amerindian community that is struggling to maintain its heritage. The community is in need of a center that could be used by the entire community for workshops, literacy training, cultural events, job skills, medical clinics, etc. This is where my group comes in to help the civilians of Bethany, by building them a community center. I am so excited to do this because it is an amazing experience that gives me the opportunity to help hundreds of people but will also let me see the new culture in Guyana that is different from what I have ever seen before. I am so excited to how the Guyanese people react when they see the finished community center, I am sure they are going to be very happy and thankful!
This is where I need your help. Builders Beyond Borders requires each person to raise money for their trip by themselves, and not relying on their parents to pay for the whole trip. I have to reach the goal of raising $1850 by November 15th and by February 1st, 2013 I have to have raised $2750. If you would like to contribute, please send me back a check made out to Builders Beyond Borders, all donations are tax deductible and will help me be able to go on this amazing journey to Guyana. Every donation is incredibly appreciated and I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to read this letter. If you have any questions about my trip, you can email me at email@example.com or check out the builders beyond borders website that ahs all of my trip information, the website http://www.buildersbeyondborders.org/ Thank you so much for your help!
