WHY THE BUCKET?

19th-century fire suppression wasn’t very effective, and a fire is one aspect of historical accuracy the Emily Dickinson Museum does not want to replicate. A 21st-century fire suppression system will make it possible to preserve and protect Emily Dickinson’s home.

WHY GIVE NOW?

The Emily Dickinson Museum must raise $25,000 in matching private gifts by the end of the year. The Museum recently received a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund for design of fire suppression systems for its two historic buildings. In order to receive these funds, we need to match them dollar for dollar.

Today, an anonymous donor pledged to match all donations up to a $1,000! That match was fulfilled by 9am. Another donor has offered to match the next $1,000 in donations!

The Dickinson Homestead will be two hundred years old in 2013. "There can be no better way to mark the bicentennial of this National Historic Landmark and premier literary site than to ensure its survival for another two centuries." - Jane Wald, executive director

ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Although the Emily Dickinson Museum is owned by the Trustees of Amherst College, the Museum is governed by a quasi-independent Board of Governors and is responsible for its own strategic plans and fundraising for operations, programs and capital projects.
