I will be participating in the Lansing Legislator Triathlon, Michigan's Triathlon & Duathlon Championships, and running in the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon to raise money and awareness for Ovarian Cancer. I am running in support of my good friend, Jackie Bayley, and in memory of my Grandma, Delores Meitz.

Jackie, who is 32 years old, was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer in April. She underwent surgery immediately, and is now undergoing aggressive chemotherapy. She is my inspiration. Whenever I think of skipping a run or when I am having a difficult time completing a run, I think of Jackie and it inspires me to reach within myself and endure. The way I look at it, a difficult run is nothing compared to what she's going through, and thinking about that always helps me through. I recently ran a full marathon and thinking of Jackie helped me get through the last 6.2 miles. She has exhibited levels of bravery and grace since her diagnosis that continue amaze me.

My Grandma Meitz died of ovarian cancer when I was only 6 years old. When my Grandpa, John Meitz, passed away in 2005, I mourned the loss of Grandma Meitz as well, because I never had the opportunity to know her throughout my childhood and adult years, as I had known Grandpa Meitz. I am running to honor not only the memories I have of her, but also the memories that my mother and her 3 sisters have of her.

Please consider donating whatever you can to my efforts. If you have any questions or would like updates on my training, just let me know! Thank you so much for your support!
